At Gold River Pediatric Dentistry, we have two qualified and licensed anesthesiologists who work with Dr. Pivnik to provide pain-free oral health care and treatments to infants, children, and teens, including those with special healthcare needs, to ensure that they have a positive experience and receive the quality of care they deserve.
After the completion of his undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Dr. Young joined the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC for his doctorate.
Afterwards, Dr. Young completed a three-year residency in Dental Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Young is extremely passionate about his career. Throughout his training, he also worked as a teacher and lecturer for courses encompassing the concepts of deep sedation/general anesthesia, local anesthesia, and medical emergencies.
Dr. Young is also a published author in a number of recognized scientific journals, including “Special Care in Dentistry” and “Anesthesia Progress”. He has also presented his research on national and international levels.
His hobbies include attending concerts, cheering for his favorite basketball team, Los Angeles Lakers, and exploring local food scenes and farmers’ markets with his wife, Alison.
Dr. Yen grew up in Northern California’s Bay Area, and then traveled to Southern California to pursue his undergraduate studies in Physiology from UCLA. He attended dental school at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
During his studies, Dr. Yen has actively participated in multiple research projects, including DNA repair mechanisms, anesthetic drug profiling, and novel ophthalmic protein characterization.
Dr. Yen is a board-certified diplomate, a director in the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, and an oral board examiner, all of which allow him to make ongoing contributions towards maintaining and elevating a high standard of practice in the field of Dental Anesthesiology. Dr. Yen also lectures to various student groups and courses, and contributes continuing education review articles in the “Anesthesia Progress” journal. Dr. Yen is passionate about serving pediatric and special needs patients, because they are usually the most likely to miss out on dental treatment due to fear and apprehension. In fact, he travels to Nicaragua every year to provide anesthesia to those with extremely limited access to care.
Dr. Yen’s hobbies include exploring the outdoors, traveling to find new dishes, and watching the San Jose Sharks.
